Denise Weaver Ross’s Exit Stage Left, a mixed media work on paper measuring 40 x 26 inches, brings her House of Cards series to a fitting theatrical close. As the Joker of the Bone Suit, it completes a reimagined deck of 56 large-scale works in which spades become bones and fossils, connecting the familiar language of playing cards with human history and mortality. Its title invites us to read this final “card” as both a playful departure and a meditation on endings: the artist’s exit from an expansive creative undertaking echoes the larger passage life to death. Within a series that interweaves personal experience, mythology, and cultural symbolism, Exit Stage Left offers a final bow - an invitation to contemplate life’s impermanence through the humor and unpredictability of a Joker.
